Gender Issues and Statistics  What are gender issues? Gender issues generally refer to concerns by society about specific differences in the lives or wellbeing of women and men.  Why are gender statistics important? The statistics are vital for understanding many aspects of wellbeing and wellbeing and progress. Gender statistics provide separate data for women and men across many dimensions of life, revealing differences and relationships between them.

Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)  MDGs are the most broadly supported development goals the world has ever agreed upon. They have 8 time-bound goals; Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women Target: Eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education preferably by 2005, and at all levels by Ratios of girls to boys in primary, secondary and tertiary education 3.2 Share of women in wage employment in the non-agricultural sector 3.3 Proportion of seats held by women in national parliament Goal 4: Reduce child mortality Goal 5: Improve maternal health Goal 6: Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases Goal 7: Ensure environmental sustainability Goal 8: Develop a global partnership for development
