Purpose of the Fund “The purpose of the Third Sector Capacity Fund is to build capacity to enable third sector organisations 1 to engage in sustainable economic regeneration and associated activities which support the aims of the North East’s Regional Economic Strategy”. 1. The third sector encompasses voluntary and community organisations, charities, social enterprises, cooperatives and mutuals.

Developing the Third Sector… –Innovative models –Collaborative models –Mergers –Trading (or other non-grant income) –Support provision –Responding to the recession …for the Regional Economic Strategy –Financial inclusion –Equality of opportunity (eg work or excluded communities) –Responding to the recession

Outcome 1 of 4 Build the capacity of the third sector to engage and contribute strategically to sustainable economic development

Outcome 2 of 4 Grow and demonstrate the contribution that the third sector makes to sustainable economic development;

Outcome 3 of 4 Develop or expand activities that lead to greater financial and/or organisational sustainability within third sector organisations

Outcome 4 of 4 Support the third sector to contribute to the region’s response to the recession
