The name of our colony is South Carolina. South Carolina was founded in The colony’s founder was King Charles the 1 st.

 The colony’s first people were the Cherokee, and Catawba. The Cherokee lived in the Appalachian Mountains, and the Catawba lived in the Fothills. South Carolina gathered nuts and berries, and grew corn, beans and squash. Also hunted deer and wild turkeys.

During the 1500s Spanish and French explorers each tried to settle in South Carolina. The men who settled Charles town received 150 acres of land. Sir Heaths plans for land in North America did not develop. The Yammassee Indians fought in the Yammassee war in As more people settled in South Carolina, Charles Town grew into a busy seaport. Schools were not widespread in the Southern Colonies. Settlers grew corn, melons, squash and beans for their family. Farms were small in the UP country. Blackbeard was a famous colonial pirate. He and his crew were a threat to the colony. In 1718 Blackbeard took control of Charlestown's Harbor.

Farming was a big business in South Carolina. South Carolina became 1 of the richest of the 13 colonies. They grew indigo to make blue die for soldier uniforms.
