Hungarian-Slovak Environmental Monitoring on the Danube Mosonmagyaróvár, May North-Transdanubian Regional, Environmental Nature Protection and Water Authority Dr. Lajos Horváth Rezső Mayer Judit Pulai Characterisation of hydro-chemical status and trends in water-quality changes

The monitoring network integrates the sampling points of the national surface water quality base network with the 11 sampling points established as a result of the joint Slovak-Hungarian monitoring for the floodplain and the Moson Danube water supplementation associated with the underwater weir established in the main Danube branch.

INUNDATION AREA 2005

2005

T T he water quality of the abandoned main Danube arm has become unstable during the time period subsequent to the diversion which could be witnessed particularly in the unfavorable oxygen saturation levels until the begin of the operation of the underwater weir. Monitoring of the river section began after the underwater weir began operating. The Old Main Danube Arm

Moson-Danube Moson-Danube Traveling towards the outlet a significant degradation of conditions is experienced as a result of human activities. While the upper section ranges from good to tolerable, the middle section is tolerable and the lower section where the effluent from the wastewater treatment plant of Győr ranges from tolerable to significantly polluted.

The water quality readings for the Lipót lake show that the quality of the surface water from the supplement aimed at maintaining the dead arm was a determining factor in the water quality of the protected habitats as the natural conditions were supplanted. The conductivity declined and fluctuated over a narrow interval while nitrification and phosphor sources increased. In addition to the shading effect of the macro-vegetation, plankton eutrification occurred and conditions were inadequate for a number of species previously found here. Lipót Lake
