Hands On Shanghai Saint Hedwig Catholic School CASA Youth Leadership Program Resume
Hands On Shanghai During , I have volunteered in: Children’s Hospital of Fudan University CereCare Wellness Center 2013 Make A Diferrence Day: Beach Clean Up Xinzhuang Elderly Center Shanghai Children Heart Center-Library Children’s Hospital of Shanghai
I was having sandwich after cleaning the beach.
My experience at the Shanghai CereCare Wellness Center is really significant to me. In 2003, Ms. Lu Shun Ling, who had cerebral palsy when she was young, established the first Cerecare center in Shanghai in an old neighborhood to help children like her recover from the disability. Workers and volunteers help kids from 1 to 7 years old with cerebral palsy learn how to control their muscles and gain basic skills, such as walking, speaking, eating and using tools. During this experience, I became very attached to the kids by playing flight chess with them, reading books with them, feeding them, and teaching them crafts hand by hand. Even though I am studying abroad now, every time I go back to Shanghai, I’ll visit the center and meet my old friends. Having experienced different volunteer opportunities, what is most special about Cerecere to me is not only that I can help the kids, but that they inspire me to appreciate my own life. I feel so blessed that I can express my mind with words and go anywhere I want to go. The kids also helped me realize that there are some people in the world fighting for their lives, not for a good university or job, but just for the ability to stand and speak, which we are lucky to have. Now every time I confront a challenge, I will tell myself to think about those kids, and know that I don't have any reason to give up.
Saint Hedwig Catholic School I started volunteering as a teacher assistant in Saint Hedwig Catholic School at the end of I went there every Sunday Morning from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Parents were picking up their kids.
This T.A. experience was challenging to me. Because as a teenager, I didn’t have many experience to teach and take care of other kids most of whom couldn’t even reason clearly. The kids often had conflict when they had different opinions or they wanted to fight for a toy. It was also hard to maintain the rules in the class since they didn’t have much self control. I learn to be patient and caring for others through this experience and I think this is what God wants me to be: a good neighbor.
CASA Youth Leadership Program During , I have volunteered in: Sticker shock Reality Party Motel Outreach Youth Leadership Conference Anti Human Trafficking Conference Blood Drive
We are at the Youth Leadership Conference in Los Alamitos HS.
We are at the Anti Human Trafficking Conference in Chapman University.
CASA Youth Leadership Program provides me a great opportunity to get involved in the community and contribute to it. We raise the awareness of teenager alcoholic party, human trafficking and relationship abuse. We deliver food to the people live in the motels and play with their kids every month. We have meetings every Monday to review the old business and plan the coming events. This program makes me feel that I’m doing good things to the community. My life becomes meaningful because of all the events I had.
