CROSS SECTION OF A CUBE  What shapes did you find by using the cross section of the cube?

WHY TEACH THE CROSS SECTION OF A CUBE?

SOMA CUBES  What is a Soma Cube?  The seven pieces of cubes are named Soma cubes. Altogether you have 1 block of three cubes and 6 blocks with four cubes which equals 27 separate cubelets.

WHY TEACH SOMA CUBES?

TANGRAMS  Make your own Tangrams  Directions:  Fold a rectangular piece of paper so that a square is formed. Cut off the extra flap.  Cut the square into two congruent triangles.  Take one triangle and fold it in half. Cut the triangle along the fold into two smaller triangles  Take the other triangle and crease it in the middle. Fold the corner of the triangle opposite the crease and cut.  Fold the trapezoid in half and fold again. Cut along both folds.  Fold the remaining small trapezoid and cut it in two.

TANGRAMS

WHY HAVE STUDENTS MAKE THEIR OWN TANGRAMS?

MONDRAIN  Game created by Sid Sackson from the book: “Beyond Tic Tac Toe” isbn#  This book is out of print, I found it at  Games based on: Victor Vasarely –HungaryJoan Miro – Spain Piet Mondrain – HollandHans Arp – Germany Sonia Delaunay – RussiaPaul Klee – Switzerland Ferdinand Springer - Germany

MONDRAIN  3 or 4 players, each using a different color.  Each turn consists of filling in a space on the board  First Move - Anywhere  “Next To” Rules  Scoring – Number of spaces in completed rectangle  Completing 2 or more rectangles
