It’s A Jungle Out There Its strange to be so universally known and yet feel so lonely. -Albert Einstein By Missy Allen

Early Life Niki Feijen was born in 1987 Native of Eindhoven, Netherlands Fascination with camera’s as a child First inspiration was abandoned house on his street growing up Photos in World Press and National Geographic encouraged him

Feeding into his curiosity Feijen has no formal training Sees his photography as a hobby apart from day job First camera was Nikon D70 Nikon D lens current favorite to use along with D800

Style & technique Found joy in photographing abandoned buildings Often private property, industrial areas, homes This style called “urbex” Adds HDR setting to his photos for signature effect

What’s HDR? HDR stands for High Dynamic Range Setting that enhances color and lighting in low light situations Pictures can look exceptionally bright/animated Creates balanced light/adds light where needed Adds depth

Locations Feijen has shot all across Western Europe Subjects include houses, churches etc Particular passion for staircases 2010 was granted Gov’t access to take trip to Pripyat Chernobyl, Ukraine site of 80’s radiation disaster

My photos…

Conclusion I chose Niki Feijin because I find myself taking urbex style photos as well I admire him not taking his photography too seriously His images evoke powerful emotions that speak for themselves Shares my same passion for nature and architecture in photography

Cont’d… Urbex photography to me is finding beauty in “ugly” often unexpected places My goal when taking photos is to show the beauty in everyday life Often overlooked/under-appreciated places Structures with character Aim to evoke emotion from my viewer as Niki Feijin does

All photos are strictly work of Niki Feijin More info can be found at: and
