College Entrance Exams/Tests  S.A.T. –  A.C.T. –  ASSET/COMPASS Most public two-year colleges and technical schools in Georgia (UNG requires SAT/ACT)  Armed Services Vocational Battery Aptitude (ASVAB).  JUNIORS: If you want to Dual Enroll (MOWR) you need to take the SAT or ACT before March.  STUDENTS are responsible for sending their OFFICIAL test scores to the college of their choice. Must be requested through the testing site.

What is the difference between the ACT and the SAT?  ACT questions tend to be more straightforward  The SAT has a stronger emphasis on vocabulary  The ACT has a science section, the SAT does not Simply tests your reading and reasoning skills when given a set of facts  The ACT tests more advanced math concepts But not necessarily harder because the questions are more straightforward  The ACT writing test is optional on test day, but required by many schools. The SAT has a required writing portion  The SAT is broken up into more sections  The ACT is more of a “big picture” exam schools are more concerned with your composite school rather than each section

How many schools should I apply to?  Dream School or Reach School  Likely—a pretty good chance of getting in  Safety—a sure thing for admission and cost  Ultimately, deciding how many schools to apply to is a family decision. However, counselors generally recommend to consider applying to one to two schools in each category.

College Applications  Sources College Admissions Office College web site Pay close attention to deadlines and items that are also required to complete your application  Example: Proof of legal residence, health forms, test scores, letters of recommendation

Applying Early? Early decision and early action plans allow students to apply early (usually by October or November) and get an admissions decision December or January. Early Decision versus Early Action  Early decision plans are binding. A student who is accepted as an ED applicant must attend the college.  Early action plans are similar but are not binding, which means students receive an early response but do not have to commit to the college until the normal reply date of May 1.  Please check the policies of the individual colleges/universities you are applying to if you are applying early.
