Halloween 31st October Engelsk onsdag 21. oktober

Why do we celebrate Halloween? The Celts lived in England (and France) 2000 years ago.

They worshipped Nature Samhain – god of winter Belenos – sun god Green man – help!

On 31st. October… Samhain calls upon the dead. They come back to earth and take the form of animals…

Druids (prester) In the evening Druids made bonfires and offered meat to the sun god Belenos. A bonfire

Belenos had to be strong to fight Samhain that night.

At 12 o’clock they worshipped Samhain instead... because Samhain controlled winter and darkness. Families took a burning log home to their own fire to protect themselves.

Christendom Priests tried to stop Halloween, but no… Halloween - a night of mystery!

Trick or treat?

Jack o’ Lantern A lighted candle in a pumpkin The tradition comes from an Irish story

The World’s shortest ghost story
