Conceptual Physics TUESDAY October 12 th, 2010 LESSON GOALS: Complete Group Examples as chosen from the set of 1-Dimensional Force & Motion problems Introduce idea of cold weld bonds Discuss difference between kinetic & static friction include equations for these… Complete Frictional Forces lab Assign HMWK #6 1/6
Group Examples (cont.) I will assign your group a particular problem from a set of exercises on 1-Dimensional force & motion. 2/6
Friction What are cold weld bonds? What is the difference between kinetic and static friction? (physically and numerically?) Frictional Forces Lab: – A participation-graded lab Vary with objects of differing weights and surfaces of different coefficients-of-friction. In Logger-Pro, be sure NOT to overwrite old data, so that we may compare each run. 3/6

HMWK #6: I will be grading these on COMPLETION/EFFORT since some of them cover topics which we have only been able to discuss lightly, thus far. (These will help prepare you for next class’ content). p. 76 #’s 2, 4, 6, 7; 8. (will need to use acceleration formula for #8) p. 101 # 52. p. 102 #’s 3, 4, 5; 9. 5/6
Looking Ahead: 6/6 Next class we will study Momentum & Impulse (and something called “Momentum Conservation”). This includes a look at collisions. There are a number of computer simulations which can help us in this area, as well.
