Please make sure your child is here by then so we can work towards earning our perfect party! Grades One grade will be chosen from each subject each week that we will use for the grade book.

Reading *Reading Goal for First Grade – 60 wpm *Sight Word Goal – 600 words *Center /Station work will include computer time: Odyssey: ELA, Math, Social Studies and Science, Reading assignments, etc… *Homework assignments include reading 20 minutes daily. Please study sight words on the homework sheet each night. They will be tested on Friday’s! *Guided Reading; daily teacher guided, small group instruction. *Saxon Phonics -daily phonics instruction Explain what students will be required to learn/do in reading this year. You might want to talk about Daily 5/Literacy Centers/Workstations if you use them in your classroom. In fact, you might want to duplicate this slide and add your center information to a separate slide.

*Math Marvels Wednesday mornings before assembly *Daily Calendar Math *In first grade, students realize that math involves solving problems through the use of appropriate strategies. Furthermore, students will be able to show what they know using pictures, manipulatives, and various strategies. *Math Marvels Wednesday mornings before assembly Explain what students will be required to learn/do in math this year.

Writing *First Grade Units of Study in writing will focus on Opinion, Informative and Narrative Writing. *Writer’s Workshop will include working on the writing process. Students will have daily writing instruction. Explain what students will be required to learn/do in writing this year.

Units in Science include: *Weather and Seasons *Plants and Animals *Water *Magnets *Sound *Light and Sound Explain what students will be required to learn/do in science this year.

Units in Social Studies include: *Our National Heritage *A Changing Country *Inventors in the United States *Community Helpers *We Are Alike, We are Different Explain what students will be required to learn/do in social studies this year.

Daily Schedule (Tentative Schedule) 8:10-9:00 Specials 9:00-9:30 Saxon Phonics 9:30-11:20 Guided Reading, Centers 11:25-11:55 Lunch 11:55-12:15 Recess 12:15-12:45 Writing Instruction 12:45-1:55 Math Instruction/ Calendar Math 1:55-2:40 Science / Social Studies Type your daily schedule here.

Students will rotate P.E., Art and Music classes each week. Special Classes Students will rotate P.E., Art and Music classes each week. On P.E. days please make sure your child wears tennis shoes and dresses appropriately. If they do not dress appropriately they will have to sit out of P.E. and this does affect their grade. Type your special class information here. Mine is included as a starting point.

Parent Involvement Mason Creek has many opportunities throughout the year where volunteers are needed. Information about volunteering is included in student packet. *Fox Hall Festival *Fall Festival *Secret Santa *Book Fairs *Field Day Another excellent way to get involved and support our wonderful school……Join PTSO! Get parents involved! List ways parents can help out the classroom by volunteering at school or by working on things at home and sending them back to school! If your school has a volunteer policy, discuss that here.

Homework Homework is given on Monday and is due on Friday. Homework includes reading for 20 minutes, reviewing sight words, and a math review assignment. The first grade team collaborates to come with the most beneficial assignments. Homework assignments support curriculum taught in the classroom. The sight words on the homework sheet for each week will be tested on Fridays for a grade. Explain your homework policy and what types of homework parents can expect.

Stay Connected! Learning clip is an excellent way to in-cooperate technology into the classroom. It provides students with the opportunity to actively participate and interact with their classmates in a different way. Tally-Marks! Here is an example of an exciting learning clip we have used! Add your contact information to this slide!
