What is a timeline? Timeline - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster DictionaryTimeline - Definition and More from the Free Merriam-Webster Dictionary Function: noun 1 : a table listing important events for successive years within a particular historical period 2usually time·line \ ˈ tīm- ˌ līn\ : a schedule of events and procedures : timetable 2 What do these definitions mean to you?

Let’s look at an example from a website. This is Maria’s timeline: How to Make a Timeline Part 1: Timeline BasicsHow to Make a Timeline Part 1: Timeline Basics What is a timeline?

Creating Your Own Timeline! Think of important events from your own life.

Creating Your Own Timeline! Examples: –day you were born –siblings’ birth –moving to a new house –getting a new pet –starting kindergarten –starting 3rd grade –starting your favorite sport –going on a fun vacation What ideas did you storm up?

Creating Your Own Timeline! Narrow down your ideas from brainstorming to your favorite 5-10 ideas. Put the ideas in order, starting with the first one that happened. Try to remember the dates of them. Use Microsoft Word to create your own timeline of the events.

Creating Your Own Timeline! Press “enter” Make a creative title, and bold it and center it Press “enter” Write title of 1 st event that took place, then – the date it occured press “enter” type 1-2 sentences describing the event and why it is special to you On top of page put header: name April 12, 2010 Ms. D’s class

Creating Your Own Timeline! Jennifer Rogers April 12, 2010 Ms. D’s class Highlights of My Life My birth – January 3, 1982 I was born in Dallas, Texas. I lived with my mom, dad, and 2-year-old brother, Jacob. Example:

Underneath each event, insert a picture from Clip Art –Click on “Insert” on toolbar –Enter a search keyword For example, if you want a picture of a dalmation, you could type in “dog” - Choose which Clip Art picture you want, click it, and it will appear in your Word document. Creating Your Own Timeline!

After completing 5-10 events with Clip Art pictures, print document. On right side of paper, use a ruler to draw a vertical (up and down) line from first event to last event. Draw a small horizontal (side to side) dash next to each event on the vertical line Next to each small dash put the date that the event occurred.

Creating Your Own Timeline! It should appear somewhat like this: I was born – February 9, 2002 I was born in Miami, Florida. I lived with my mom, dad, and cat, Lucy. My baby sister was born – March 12, 2004 My parents named her Isabel and she already had a head full of curly blonde hair. I liked teaching her all kinds of new things Feb March 2002

You’ve made your own timeline of your life!
