Persistence of Vision Assignment 1: As a new animator for Animation in Education you have been asked to demonstrate to a visiting group of students why persistence of vision is an important principle in animation. (M1) Using Pivot Stick Animator to create an animation or series of animations (see next slide) to demonstrate persistence of vision. Create the animation, documenting throughout using log sheets. Test the animation thoroughly by: Running through the animation. Create a PowerPoint incorporating elements of your animation sequences that will help to explain persistence of vision. What is the science behind persistence of vision. What have you done to ensure that your animation follows the principles of persistence of vision.

Pivot Stick Animator First character moves from top right to centre and waves. A person walks from top left to centre. They meet and shake hands Produce two versions of the animation. One animation should be as ‘smooth’ as possible using many frames to ensure that persistence of vision is covered. The other animation should use few frames and demonstrate jerky movements where the brain cannot quite work out what is going on. Save both animations as .gif file or a video file types so that they can be imported into your PowerPoint to demonstrate the concept of persistence of vision.
