Presentation transcript:

The total number of American deaths in Iraq is 4,279 since the war started in 2003 There has also been about 31,529 Americans wounded with 20% of them having serious brain or spinal injuries. There is a documented 94,130 – 102,710 Iraqi civilian deaths since the war started.

On January 30, 2005 Iraqis elected a 275 member transitional National Assembly that replaced the US- installed Interim Government. After 2 months a government was formed and set with the task of drafting a permanent constitution. The constitution was approved in 2005 with the provision that lawmakers can amend it after a new government is established. Iraq now has a President named Jalal Talabani and a Prime Minister named Nouri al-Maliki.

There is currently a military in Iraq called the New Iraqi Military (NIA). The Military in Iraq was developed by the Multi-National Security Transition Command and it is commanded by U.S. Army Lieutenant general Michael D. Barbero. Currently the Iraqi Military has 14 divisions, 56 brigades, and 185 combat battalions. The 6th division, 12th division, and the 17th division are still missing their fourth maneuver brigades. Divisions are forming engineer, logistics, mortar, and other units by identifying over-strength units, such as the Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) battalions and other headquarters elements, and then transferring them as needed. According to the U.S. Dept of Defense, the Iraqi Military in the end will have approximately a 300,000 person force with 10 infantry divisions and 6 mechanized infantry divisions consisting of 36 brigades and 113 battalions.

The thing that surprised me the most in the movie was that the U.S. was not doing anything about the looting going on in Iraq. They were just watching it all happen. The only thing that that the U.S. troops were protecting was the oil. The thing that angered me the most in the movie was that the war wasn’t really ever planned out too good. It said in the movie that George Bush only planned for 60 days before sending U.S. troops into Iraq. It also angered me that none of the U.S. vehicles were armored.

The U.S. is spending over $5000 a second and $7.3 billion a month in Iraq. There has been over 124,000 troops sent to Iraq since the war started. The total cost of the Iraq war as of today (11/17/09) is over $932,723,100 and going up every second. The cost of deploying one U.S soldier for one year in Iraq is $390,000. There is 75 major U.S. bases in Iraq. There has been 72 U.S. Military helicopters downed in Iraq with at least 36 of them from enemy fire.
