No Academic Project Course CodeCreditsSemesterPrerequisites 2 Academic Project II 1.WAES3182 Academic Project for Artificial Intelligence II 2.WKES3182 Academic Project for Software Engineering II 3.WMES3182 Academic Project For Management Information System II 4.WRES3182 Academic Project for Computing System & Technology II 5.WRET3182 Academic Project For Multimedia II 6.WPET3182 Academic Project For Management II 5 Semester I Year 4 Pass with at least a C grade for Academic Project I

The main objective of Academic Project I and II is to provide students with the skills in analyzing, designing and implementing computer solutions to a variety of problems. The aim of the faculty to offer this course is to leverage students’ technical and soft skills. Through this course, students should be able to demonstrate their technical knowledge, problem- solving, critical thinking and good decision-making.

Introduction WXES3183 is conducted over a semester. Initial tasks to complete the project such as: identifying project title, producing a proposal demonstrating mastery of developments tools Failure to complete the project in one semester will result in the students awarded with an F grade. The course is conducted by the respective departments. Hence, supervision and assessments are done by members of the department concerned.

Learning Outcomes At the end of the course, students will be able to: i. Analyze problems and produce problem statements. ii. Identify appropriate solution approach for the problems. iii. Review literatures related to the problems. iv. Use appropriate programming languages and/or tools for each solution proposed. v. Identify commercialization opportunity for the product to be developed.

Synopsis of Course Content This course covers the following research activities: Problem identification Literature review Solution identification Mastery of the proposed tools/programming languages Writing a research proposal Research proposal presentation (viva) and show the mastery of tools/programming languages

Roles Students: Register the course. Choose the project title and supervisor. Discuss the project title with the supervisor. Perform the academic project diligently. Attend the Research Methodology class (for Academic Project I). Present the work via Viva/Project presentation. Submit the proposal/report to the office before the deadline.

Supervisors: Propose project titles on the e-ilmiah faculty system. Discuss the proposed titles with students and choose student for each title. Supervise and coach students on the project. Monitor students progress Evaluate and mark students’ reports.

Supervision meetings: frequency of meetings: by agreement with your supervisor, I would start with once a week and then only make appointments Some supervisors set a regular slots during the week for project supervisions Preparations for meetings: decide what you need advice and feedback on in some cases, it is better to send things to the supervisor in advance, to give them time to read and comment take notes during the meeting if don’t understand something, ask to repeat/explain

Panel Members: Attend students’ viva/presentations for Academic Projects I and II. Evaluate student’s presentations and their mastery of tools. Coordinators: Manage the process of Academic Project of each department

Lecturer/ Supervisor Dept. Coordinator Panel 1 & 2 Student Propose project titles REJECTED ACCEPTED APPROVE? Week 1 to 4Week 5 to 7 ASSIGN Week 8 to 12  Meeting & Discussion  Submit proposal  Decide Tools ASSIGN Tool Skills Presentation Week 13 to 15 Attend Student Presentation Evaluate & Key-in Marks Flow Chart for Academic Project 1

Evaluation Methods Continuous evaluation: 100%. Academic Project I: Supervisor – Proposal - 40% Panels - Mastery of Tools/Viva - 60%

2 panel members (lecturers from your department who are familiar with your topic) will be assigned to evaluate your work. The schedule of the viva will be prepared by the Coordinator of each dept, usually on Week 13 and Week 14. Viva will be conducted in the labs or BT/BK. Preparation for the viva: Slides – to show your research proposal Introduction Problem Statement Objectives Literature Review Design/Model/Analysis/Algorithm Mastery of the tools/programming languages Viva

Proposal Writing All students are required to prepare a proposal for Academic Project I which contains at least the following information: Introduction to relevant project/title. Problem statement and the proposed solutions. Project scope. Project objectives Literature reviews where the students should be able to elaborate and make a comparison on the methods/solutions that have been implemented before. Methodology and system design. Gantt chart. References.

Research Method class For Academic Project I, all students are required to attend Research Methodology class which is conducted 2 hours per week (please refer to the time table). The aim of the class is to provide a set of guidelines to students on how to do research.

Objectives: At the end of the course, students should be able to: understand some basic concepts of research and its methodologies analyze and define appropriate research problem prepare and a project proposal write a research report

Teaching schedule: WEEKTOPIC 2Introduction to the Course 3Overview of Research 4Literature Review 5Defining Research Problem 6Writing Research Proposals/Reports 7Preparing for Presentation/Viva

Introduction In this course, students are required to design and develop a prototype based on the problem and tools that they have identified in AP 1, write a project report, present and defend their project.

Learning outcomes Depends on your department. For e.g. For AI dept..... At the end of this course, students are able to : Develop project using identified tools Demonstrate ethical and professional values in project development and documentation Write report. Solve problems based on best practices Use knowledge from various sources for project development

EVALUATION METHOD Continuous evaluation: 100%. Academic Project II: Supervisor –Report - 40% Panels - System/Viva - 60%

Viva Each student must present their system during the viva/ system demo. Report Each student must prepare a report for Academic Project II which contains at least the following information: Abstract Introduction to relevant project/title. Problem statement and the proposed solutions. Project scope. Project objectives. Literature reviews where the students should be able to elaborate and make a comparison on the methods/solutions that have been implemented before. Methodology and system design. System development. System evaluation. Conclusions. References.
