MY LASTING IMPACT Through all of my accomplishments, I have been able to influence others to take action to achieve equal rights. This influence has gone beyond the United States and has influenced societies around the world to use non-violent methods to fight for equal rights. I have been influential in the writing and passing of civil rights legislation, such as the Equal Rights Amendment. I influenced equality for other minorities, such as women.

MY LASTING IMPACT My speeches, community involvement, and leadership skills have been studied, taught, and modeled all over the world. My character has also influenced citizens in a variety of societies to bring about positive change. Perseverance, work ethic, integrity, dedication, just, caring, and assertive are some of the many descriptions people have used to describe my character.

MY LASTING IMPACT Sadly, my assassination also had a lasting impact on society. With all of the positive change and displays of love, many people paused to reflect about the effects of anger, hate, segregation, and indifference. My death influenced others to “get involved”. Unfortunately, some took up arms and reacted with violence and negativity. Many were tired and impatient when it came to fighting for their rights.

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” This quote represents the 21 st Century Skill of Accountability and Adaptability. I role modeled and encouraged citizens to exercise personal responsibility. I set high standards and goals for myself and others. Without personal responsibility and community involvement a society can be left to be controlled and dictated by an elite few. I feel that we are accountable for each other and need to learn how to adapt to each other and our ENVIRONMENT. As my quote says, it is easy to say nothing, do nothing, and hide in the comfort of your own home, but as others say, “when the going gets tough, the tough get going.” I take the responsibility of being a man by standing up for what is right, being accountable for my society, and adapting to my environment.

“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.” This relates to ENVIRONMENTS because we all members of society that should be working and striving toward one positive and peaceful goal. It is a disgrace that humans living in a common ENVIRONMENT would be seen or judged based upon their race, sex, age, disability, appearance, wealth, and/or interests. I have lived my life dedicated to creating an ENVIRONMENT where everyone has equal opportunities. No one should have to live in fear when exercising basic rights, such as voting.

IB Learner Profile PRINCIPLED I have always felt that a man must stand for something. I stand for the same PRINCIPLES that the original founding fathers discussed and wrote about in the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. I stand for the basic rights of all man: life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. I support the democratic process and societies equal participation in that process. I believe in fairness and justice for all mankind.

If you look back at my accomplishments and their impact, you will see that I lived a life of service to others and for others. I believe that we are all accountable to one another. If one is in need or hurting, it is everyone’s duty to help. If one is mistreated, we pick them up and we bring the persecutor's to justice. My ethical behavior was obvious through my religious convictions, non-violence approach to social justice, and unwavering character.
