Ordering decimals

Ordering decimals Ordering decimals with the same number of decimal places is easy to do e.g. 0.2, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9 Things become more difficult when there are different numbers of decimal places…

Ordering decimals Put the following decimals into ascending order 0.01, 0.4, 0.8325, 0.14, 0.542 Note: ascending is smallest to largest descending is largest to smallest

Ordering decimals The easiest way to do this is to make it so that each number has the same amount of decimal places, so… 0.01 0.4 0.8325 0.14 0.542 0.0100 0.4000 0.8325 0.1400 0.5420

Ordering decimals 0.01 0.4 0.8325 0.14 0.542 0.0100 0.4000 0.1400 0.5420 It is now much easier to compare the sizes of the numbers. So the correct order would be… 0.0100 0.1400 0.4000 0.5420 0.8325

Ordering decimals Be careful with negative numbers! -0.9 may look bigger than 0.1 BUT IS IT!?
