1In February 2003, an Irish woman called Christina Noble was invited to Buckingham Palace in London to meet Prince Charles. He gave her a very special award. The award was for all the work she has done for children in Vietnam. Christina has helped many thousands of Vietnamese street children. She has given them clothes, food and places to live. She has also helped them with their education, and persuaded doctors to help them when they are sick. SPECIAL AWARD

2Christina was born in Ireland in Her family was very poor. Her mother died when she was just ten years old and her father did not look after his children. Christina lived on the streets with her brothers and sisters until she was sent away to live in an orphanage. She left the orphanage when she was sixteen, and lived in a park. One night in 1971, Christina had a dream. In her dream she saw many frightened and hurt children. Above the children was the word ‘Vietnam.’ Christina decided to go to Vietnam to help the children. SPECIAL AWARD

3It wasn’t until 1989 that Christina finally arrived in Vietnam. At first she worked alone from her hotel room. Then she began to raise money for a medical centre, which opened in Christina now has many supporters, who help her to raise money around the world. Because her own childhood was so hard, Christina understands the problems of the street children in Vietnam. That’s why she works so hard to help them.
