This presentation examines the role of the Tech Team as the hub of ICT integration in the school. Who should be on the Tech Team and what does the Tech Team do? The Tech Team is essential in ensuring winning conditions are in place to facilitate the integration of ICT for life-long learning. *Information and Communication Technologies Ensuring that ICT * become a part of Life-Long Learning...

Who is on the Tech Team? When and how do they meet? 4Meet at least once per month for an official meeting 4Release time is provided 4Minutes are taken 4An agenda is posted for the staff è One teacher rep per cycle (preferably) è A school administrator

What does the Tech Team do? 4 Take a tech inventory 4 Look at the AUP in place at the School Board 4 Discuss ICT purchasing decisions 4 Occasional troubleshooting 4 Meet with the School Board Technician 4 Disseminate ICT related information 4 Organize a school web site

Ô Take a hardware inventory (I.e. computer type, serial numbers and location) Ô Take a software inventory Ô Know where all the software is located - preferably in a locker to which the tech team has a key Ô Create a signup sheet for the peripherals and software to keep track of their location at all times Take a tech inventory...

Look at the ICT Acceptable use Policy... Ô Make sure that the AUP is properly disseminated in your school - meet with the staffAUP Ô Keep a record of the “Consent Forms” signed Ô Make sure everyone is aware of Netiquette and Netcitation Netcitation Students need to be aware of Cyberspace and the proper treatment of ICT

Netcitation The Basics: 1 - Always reference the site you got the information from - I.e., give the URL 2- Always indicate the name of the site 3 - Always indicate the date Space Shuttle Atlantis Taken from Nasa Human Space Flight: November 14, 2000 EXAMPLE:

Discuss ICT purchasing decisions... Ô Find out what your School Board recommends Ô Be aware of what the technology can do for pedagogy Ô Should you sacrifice a computer to buy more peripherals? SPEND WISELY!!! Ô The Marois Plan is in its final year - SPEND WISELY!!! Be informed before you purchase -

Occasional trouble shooting... Ô Show them the basics - I.e., how to: shutdown properly, restart after a freeze, change the ink cartridge for the printer etc… Ô If your school has a server - know how to reboot it and do some minor troubleshooting Offer a ‘tech orientation’ session for fellow staff members

Meet with the school board technician... Ô Have a representative of the tech team be in charge of meeting with the technician upon school visits Ô the technician in advance with a list of prioritized items to be fixed in the school Ô Inform the staff of this procedure so they that can alert the tech team rep of tech problems in their class

Disseminate ICT info to the staff... Ô Be in touch with your local CEMIS/RECIT and your school board ICT consultant (preferably have a Tech Team listserv for the school board) Ô Pass any information you get from your RECIT on to your staff - For example:  Full Speed Ahead - a monthly electronic bulletin Full Speed Ahead  Conference information (E.g., AQUOPS)AQUOPS  Information on web copyright and netcitation  ICT related literature (E.g., Learning & Leading with Technology)Learning & Leading with Technology  Grant information (E.g., GrassRoots)GrassRoots  Look at ICT Exit Profiles on the QESN Connection (created by the English CEMIS/RECIT)ICT Exit ProfilesQESN Connection Do this by having the Tech Team cycle reps meet with their cycle teams!!!

Help organize a school web site Include:  School information and services  A showcase area for student work (E.g., St. Dorothy Elementary, EMSB)St. Dorothy Elementary Ô Have the students be involved Ô Train a Student Tech Team to make sure that all the links are in order and to FTP student web pages Ô Show staff members how to FTP Don’t forget to get a GrassRoots grant!!!
