Prior Knowledge What do you already know about Georgia? What do you already know about regions in Georgia?

Piedmont The piedmont region has lots of little hills. It also has many forests. Can you see woods or a hill when you walk outside your classroom?

Piedmont We live in this region! Most people who live in Georgia live in the piedmont region.

Piedmont Why do you think this park is named Piedmont Park? Turn to your neighbor and discuss your thoughts!

Valley and Ridge This region has high, rocky ridges, which are sometimes called folded mountains. The valleys between the ridges are great land for farming food, such as apples.

Coastal Plain Almost 60 percent of the land in Georgia is part of the Coastal Plain. That’s more than half of our state!

Coastal Plain Temperatures in the Georgia Coastal Plain are warm. A lot of this region is marshy. The soil is often sandy.
