Approval Ratings  Out of the 3 branches, Congress usually has the lowest approval ratings  Even so, the majority of representatives get reelected

Problems with Congress  Below are critiques of Congress:  Gridlock -> when the House is evenly split, when the Senate and the House cant agree, or when the President does not agree with Congress  Congress does not reflect the views of its constituents.  Growing corruption -> taking money and other benefits  Lack of cohesion with Congress and the President

CFU  What is the branch of government with the lowest approval ratings?  Congress

Contract with America  The CwA was a platform that the Republicans campaigned with during 1994  During the first 100 days they promised  Balanced budget  Welfare reform  Rise in Social Security earnings  Etc.

Outcomes  They were successful in fulfilling their promise.  It led to a an increase in approval ratings for Congress  People started to trust Congress, but the impeachment trial of Bill Clinton brought that to an end

Exit Ticket  How did the Contract with America change the way people saw Congress? What happened during this time? How do people see Congress now?
