Spencer’s Pre-assessments: DIBELS – Reading assessment for Kindergarten, First, Second, and Third Grades mCLASS – Mathematics assessment for Kindergarten and First Grades SRI – Reading assessment for second through fifth grades MAP – Mathematics assessment for second through fifth grades

How are students assessed? DIBELs, mClass, SRI, and MAP are given at the beginning, middle and end of the year. Teachers progress monitor students so they can increase their scores each assessment window. This is the first year that second and third grade students will take DIBELS. Spencer was selected to participate in the Governor’s Reading Mentors program for three years, and DIBELS is the assessment used in grades kindergarten through third grade.

What does the school do to help with students’ growth? Teachers work with students in the classroom to help them increase their assessment results. Spencer Elementary School has intervention-focused blocks to help students get additional support in reading and mathematics. Teachers send homework to help students get additional practice at home.
