FAQ WEEKLY BASAL READING TEST HOW PARENTS CAN HELP THEIR CHILD PREPARE FOR THE TEST.

WHICH STORY IS BEING TESTED? The stories in the reading basal will be covered in order. The first week of school is Unit 1 story 1 and will proceed from there. Pull Out the Home study-guide from the Milleville Folder for the reading stories as your child progresses through them and you will always know which is next. Check Mrs. Milleville’s Online Classroom.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD MY CHILD READ THIS STORY? The student should read or listen to this story nightly. Research shows that repeated reading of a text builds oral reading fluency. Start working on the test question study guide at the beginning of the week.

HOW CAN I HELP WITH VOCABULARY WORDS? Parents can help their child study vocabulary words by using the words from the list in everyday speaking. Parents can ask their child the meaning of the words. Parents can give the meaning and ask what word they are describing. Vocabulary words are in bold print in the text. Vocabulary words are listed on the study guides.

WHERE CAN I FIND THE TEST QUESTIONS TO STUDY? The test questions for each basal test can be found in the Milleville Folder or on Mrs. Milleville’s Online Classroom. These are the actual questions for the test but instead of multiple choice they are asked in an open ended fashion.

HOW CAN I HELP MY CHILD STUDY FOR THE TEST? Using the Milleville Study-guide folder, find the list of test questions. Read the questions out loud together before rereading the story. As answers for the questions arrive during the reading write down the page numbers by the question. The night before the test have your child go back into the story and find the answers.

HOW IMPORTANT IS THE WEEKLY READING BASAL TEST? The weekly basal test is 100 points each week. The success of this test has a great impact on your child’s overall grade.
