HEADS UP FOR SAFETY! SAFETY TUTORIAL

HEADS UP! H ANDS ARE THE MOST VULNERABLE PART OF THE BODY. E YES AND EARS ALSO NEED PROTECTION. A SK WHEN YOU ARE NOTE SURE! D RESS SAFELY USING THE APPROPRIATE PROTECTION. S AFETY DEVICES MUST ALWAYS BE USED AS INTENDED. UP!

MACHINES THAT WILL BE DISCUSSED ARE… BANDSAW SCROLL SAW BELT SANDER DRILL PRESS HAND-HELDS

BAND SAW SAFETY

Upper Blade Guide Adjustment Upper Blade Guide Blade Switch Fence

NEVER MAKE ADJUSTMENTS WHILE THE SAW IS RUNNING!

ADJUST UPPER BLADE GUIDE TO ¼” ABOVE YOUR WORKPIECE.

IF A BLADE BREAKS, JUST TURN THE MACHINE OFF AND STEP BACK.

ROUND OBJECTS SHOULD BE CORRECTLY CLAMPED OR HELD FOR A SAFE CUT.

STOP THE SAW BEFORE BACKING OUT OF LONG AND/OR CURVED CUTS.

KEEP YOUR FINGERS AWAY FROM THE PATH OF THE BLADE!

MAKE SURE YOUR WORKPIECE IS SECURELY ON THE TABLE BEFORE CUTTING.

SLOW CUTTING OR BURNING USUALLY INDICATED A DULL BLADE. HAVE IT CHANGED!

DRILL PRESS SAFETY

Feed lever Table Height Adjustment Lever Chuck Table

CLAMP OR FIRMLY HOLD ALL WORK TO THE TABLE.

REMOVE THE CHUCK KEY BEFORE STARTING.

CENTER-PUNCH YOUR WORK BEFORE USING A VERY SMALL BIT. IT WILL KEEP THE BIT FROM BENDING/WANDERING AWAY FROM WHERE YOU INTEND TO DRILL.

EASE UP ON THE FEED PRESSURE AS YOU ARE ABOUT TO CUT THROUGH YOUR WORK.

USE A “BACKER- BOARD” TO LESSEN “BLOW-OUT”.

KEEP YOUR HANDS AWAY FROM THE REVOLVING CHUCK/BIT! LONG HAIR, AND CLOTHING CAN GET CAUGHT!

LOOSEN THE TABLE CLAMP BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE THE TABLE HEIGHT!

SCROLL SAW SAFETY

On/Off Switch Blade Tension Lever Blade

 TIGHTEN LEVERS AND WING-NUTS BY HAND ONLY!

 ONLY CUT MATERIAL THAT HAS A FLAT SURFACE ON THE BOTTOM.

 FEED MATERIAL INTO THE MACHINE AT A MODERATE RATE OF SPEED.

KEEP YOUR FINGERS A MINIMUM OF 2” AWAY FROM THE BLADE.

STATIONARY BELT SANDER SAFETY

Dust Chute On/Off switch Abrasive Belt Table

YOUR FINGERS SHOULD NEVER COME WITHIN 2” OF THE MOVING ABRASIVE SURFACE.

DON’T PUSH TOO HARD!

 CHECK THE BELT FOR WEAR AND TEAR!

 NOTHING SMALLER THAN 6”!

 DO NOT SAND MORE THAN 1/8” OF MATERIAL!

WATCH OUT!! NEW BELTS CAN BE VERY “GRIPPY” AND LAUNCH YOUR WOOD ACROSS THE ROOM!

BELT SANDER SAFETY

Guide Wheel Dust bag Switch Belt

ALWAYS MAKE SURE THE SWITCH IS OFF BEFORE PLUGGING IN!

ALWAYS USE THE DUST BAG!

TO AVOID RUNNING OVER THE CORD, PLACE IT OVER YOU SHOULDER OR HOLD IT OUT OF THE WAY.

HOLD THE SANDER FIRMLY WITH BOTH HANDS.

AVOID PUSHING DOWN ON THE SANDER TO MAKE IT SAND FASTER.

MAKE SURE YOUR WORK IS CLAMPED OR HELD FIRMLY!

MAKE SURE THE BELT IS IN GOOD CONDITION.

REMOVE, TUCK IN, OR TIE BACK ALL LOOSE CLOTHING, JEWELRY, ETC…

FINISH SANDER SAFETY

Switch Sanding pad

MAKE SURE THE SWITCH IS OFF BEFORE PLUGGING IT IN!

ALWAYS SAND IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA!

DON’T FORCE A SANDER INTO THE WORKPIECE.

MAKE SURE THE SANDER HAS COME TO A COMPLETE STOP BEFORE SETTING IT DOWN.

CORRECT SANDING SEQUENCE STARTS WITH A COARSE GRIT (80-120) AND WORKS TO FINER GRITS ( ).

DO NOT SKIP A GRIT THINKING YOU WILL BE DONE QUICKER.

JIG SAW SAFETY

Switch Foot Blade

UNPLUG THE JIG SAW BEFORE MAKING ANY ADJUSTMENTS.

FIRMLY CLAMP ALL WORK BEFORE CUTTING!

WAIT UNTIL THE BLADE HAS STOPPED MOVING BEFORE REMOVING IT FROM A CUT.

CHECK THE TRIGGER BEFORE PLUGGING THE SAW IT. MAKE SURE IT IS OFF!

KEEP THE CORD OUT OF THE PATH OF THE BLADE!
