Industrial Revolution Aim: How did life differ before the modern Industrial Revolution? Do Now: Describe the relationship human beings have with the earth? Do you think this relationship is taken seriously? What can we do to bring attention to this issue? Define in your own words infinite, finite and Turning point

I. Pre-Industrial Revolution 1.Farming is main occupation 2.Major Threat- Disease (no medicines/antibiotics) 3.Small Families- 1/3 infants die, 40 years old is life expectancy 4.People live in either small towns/villages or farms (self- sufficient towns)

A. Daily life  Life revolves around work  Boys- help Dad  Girls- help Mom  Rely on weather for harvest  Domestic System- created for families to produce goods at home (wool, leather)

1. Crops produced faster, more efficiently 2.Leads to Better food Production 3.Better diets 4.Population Explosion 5. New technology (steam engine)

III. Industrial Revolution  Def: a change in production from hand tools to complex machines  Industrial Revolution begins in Britain!!

II. Movement away from Rural life  Agrarian Revolution- a change in farming methods and technology (irrigation systems & seed drill)
