Salvador Felipe Jacinto Dali I Domenech (AKA Dali)

Dali is most famous for his style of paintings called surrealism. The paintings look so different from what we normally consider to be ART…but then again, who is to say what is art and what is not art. Surrealism focuses on the subconscious…the unknown. Many of his paintings appear to be dream like. Most of all they make you want to look at them and wonder, how did he come up with that….

The Persistence of Memory is perhaphs one of his most famous. It is often referred to as the melting clocks. Look at the white think…does it look like a closed eye with eye lashes. Why are there ants on the closed watch? Some say the “melting” clocks represent that time is not rigid, it is a concept created by man but does not really exist.

Dali also re-created the Las Meninas painting according to his own interpretation. What do you think he was trying to say? Is there any significance to the number given to the princess?
