Iris and Walter Amazing Words

Iris and Walter Amazing Words  investigate  rural  urban  creature  underground  brittle  decision  dart

investigate in – ves – ti – gate When you investigate something, you try to find out all about it. Let’s investigate our new neighborhood. How would you investigate something inside a drawer or bag?

rural ru - ral People who live in the country live in a rural place. My aunt lives on a farm in a rural part of the state. What would you find in a place that is rural?

rural

urban ur - ban People who live in a city live in an urban place. There is lots of traffic with cars, trucks, and buses in an urban place. If you live in an apartment building, you probably live in an urban area. What would you find in a place that is urban?

urban

creature crea - ture A creature is an animal or person that is living. Many creatures live in the forest. I heard a creature making noise in that bush.

underground un – der - ground Underground means under the ground you walk on. If you dig a hole, you can find something that is underground. Squirrels and chipmunks bury their food in underground holes.

brittle brit - tle Something that is brittle breaks very easily. If you drop an egg, you’ll find out that its shell is brittle. Some brittle plastic toys shatter and break.

decision de – ci - sion When you make up your mind to do something, you make a decision. I made a decision to have a peanut-butter- and-jelly sandwich for lunch. You can make your own decision about which shirt to wear today.

dart When something darts, it moves very quickly from one place to another. On a windy day, clouds dart across the sky. Show me how you would dart from one end of the room to the other.
