Our school was built in Before this the school met in a building next to the Parish Church – so we can go back to at least 1790 – that is old! In recent years our school has been modernised but is still basically a Victorian building with arched windows and stone wall... plus computers!
Our school is just 5 kms / 3 miles from Barnstaple, close to the edge of Exmoor. We often go on educational visits and field trips.
Claire’s house - a place where children can spend playtimes. At lunch times older children (wearing blue caps) help organise games for younger children
Swimbridge school has three teachers and a headteacher plus two part time teachers. We have around 80 pupils and quite a few supply teachers, classroom assistants and three dinner ladies (MTAs). We have four class rooms and a cook and a secretary. The year fives and sixes take it in turns to help the Meal Time Assistants organize games for the little ones at lunch times. Our school meals are very tasty!
A new extension has recently been built on the side of the school. It looks like the original building but has been built in a modern way We have two play grounds and a grassy area and up a bit further up we have a pond. In the future we might be having the grassy area turned into another play ground. Over the road we have our small school field where we have games.
... One dressed as Aladdin’s mum in our latest pantomime
We are proud that our school and many pupils have won many awards. Virtually every year 6 child for 15 years has left being able to swim at least 500 metres – most over 1000 metres. Our SAT results get better every year! We support a number of charities (here we are on Comic Relief Day 2003) and sponsor two Third World Children – one in Ghana, the other in India
Children from class 2 working in class 3.
