Introduction to PowerPoint Used for many business presentations Slides provide an outline for the presentation Presenter controls the rate at which audience is given information Requires a Windows operating system

Getting Started-Opening PowerPoint Click on the “start” button in the bottom left corner of your screen. Click on the item that says, “Programs.” Click “Microsoft Office” on the list that comes up. Click on the Microsoft PowerPoint application that should be on the new menu that appears.

Sample Window

Choosing Your Theme Click on “General Templates” that is found towards the bottom of the “New Presentation” options bar to the right. Decide which theme you would like to use for your slides. Click on the theme you have chosen. Click on the “ok” button to apply the theme to your slides.

Sample Window

Working With Text Use your mouse to click on the words that say, “Click to add title,” or “Click to add subtitle,” when you are ready to add text. Type your text when a cursor appears in the text box.

Adding New Slides Choose “Insert” from the menu bar and click on “New Slide,” to add a new slide to your presentation. Follow the same directions as were given for the first slide to add or edit text. As you add multiple slides, you may return to any one of them by clicking on the slide’s image to the left of the screen.

Sample Window

Troubleshooting ProblemSolution The “New Presentation” sidebar to the right does not appear when I open PowerPoint. Click on “View” in the menu bar. Click on “Task Pane.” The sidebar showing all slides in the presentation does not appear when I open Powerpoint. Click on “View” in the menu bar. Click on “Normal (Restore Panes).” My text does not fit in the text box. Change the size of the text box dragging the edge or corner of the box. Another option is to reduce the font size.
