Virtualization Technology and Microsoft Virtual PC 2007 YOU ARE WELCOME By : Osama Tamimi

WHY VIRTUALIZATION AND MICROSOFT VIRTUAL PC ? Simple, easy and important applications that solve many problems. Many advanced courses and applications can be given based on the virtualization.

TOPICS Introduction to Virtualization Technology. Installing and Configuring Microsoft Virtual PC Demo : Create a new Domain and configure Simple Client–Server network (Windows XP - Windows Server2008 ). How to Make a remote access to a specific client.

VIRTUALIZATION TECHNOLOGY (VT) Virtualization means to create a virtual version of a device or resource, such as a server, storage device, network or even an operating system where the framework divides the resource into one or more execution environment (Virtual CD,memory..etc). Operating system virtualization is the use of software to allow a piece of hardware to run multiple operating system images at the same time. The technology got its start on mainframes decades ago, allowing administrators to avoid wasting expensive processing power. Host VS Guests. Requires Hardware support !.

FEATURES OF VT More environments and less hardware required (less costs). Legacy operating systems or applications. Simplified resource management increasing IT efficiency. Greater systems reliability, portability. Educational purposes. Compatibility problems, some experiments.

CHECK HARDWARE SUPPORT Download Intel tool to confirm virtualization technology : For AMD Processors download the below utility. V_Compatibility_Check_Utility.zip V_Compatibility_Check_Utility.zip Before start using the program, make sure that the “Virtualization” is enabled in the Bios. Start Using the Program !.

MICROSOFT VIRTUAL PC 2007 It’s an application for the Virtualization. Can be downloaded from Download details: VPC 2007 SP1.Download details: VPC 2007 SP1 Has many Features : shared Folders, drag and Drop …etc

HOW TO CREATE A NETWORK ? Each network has a Server (Windows 2003,2008, Redhat..etc) and clients machines (XP, Seven, Vista ). Make sure that they are physically connected (correctly). Each PC has a unique IP Address within its network. Each PC has a unique Name. The clients join the domain in the Server.

DEMO Using Windows Server2008 to create a new Domain (microsoft.just.com) and create a simple network with many Windows XP clients. Then create a new account for a new student with ID Number : and force him to change the password after the first login. From the Server make a remote to (oclient1) !.

REMOTE ACCESS Considerations : Firewall & Proxy. Remote access feature in the remote computer. Local Security Policy in the remote computer.

APPLICATIONS IN THE NETWORK Remote Access. Shared Folders. Many clients within the Virtualization environment.

ACTIVE DIRECTORY - AD An active directory is a directory structure used on Microsoft Windows based computers and servers to store information and data about networks and domains. It is primarily used for online information and was originally created in 1996 and first used with Windows 2000.

IP ADDRESSES How the IP addresses assigned ? 1.Statically. 2.Dynamically via the DHCP. The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol ( DHCP ) is a computer networking protocol used by devices ( DHCP clients ) which dynamically distributes the IP address to the destination host. DORA Process ! 1.Discovery. 2.Offer. 3.Request. 4.Acknowledgment.

SUMMARY Virtualization and OS VT meaning. Virtualization must be supported by the CPU and enabled. Using the Microsoft virtual PC to make a simple network and make remote access to specific client.
