The National Center for Public Policy in Higher Education

Organizational Mission A non-profit organization, The National Center for Public Policy in Higher Education was founded in 1998 as a project of the Higher Education Policy Institute. The mission was to promote policies that would enhance Americans’ opportunities to pursue education and training beyond high school.

The Organization’s Role within Higher Education The National Center for Public Policy in Higher Education A Catalyst for Improving Public Policy A Resource for Policy Development

One role of the organization was to conduct independent research and analyses of policy issues within the nation and individual states regarding achievement and educational opportunity in higher education.

Key Questions Asked by The National Center Improving Public Policy Who should higher education serve? How should financial responsibility be shared? What are the most productive ways for government to invest? How can state and federal policies encourage and foster quality education? How can public policies encourage cost effectiveness in higher education?

A Catalyst for Improving Public Policy A second role of the organization was to communicate their findings and research to parties having a vested interest in improving higher education policy: Civic, business and higher education leaders Citizens Public Officials
