CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (CNN) -- An early wintry storm bearing icy rain and snow left at least a million residences and businesses without power in the Carolinas on Thursday as it continued to drop snow and ice in big cities along the East Coast. Six to 10 inches of snow are expected in Washington, four to eight in Philadelphia, four to five in New York, say meteorologists. Airport traffic began snarling early, the Federal Aviation Administration reporting that departure traffic destined to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in Washington would not be allowed to depart until at or after 8:45 a.m. EST. Flights scheduled to leave LaGuardia in New York for Philadelphia International Airport were experiencing delays averaging two-and-a-half hours, some flights running almost five hours behind. Read
