© 2014, Florida Department of Education. All Rights Reserved. Why Do We Have A Safe Driver Plan Requirement? Became a requirement of the State Board of Education sometime in Is located in Rule 6A , Florida Administrative Code (State Board of Education Rules). A need to hold school bus operators to a higher standard of safety was identified. Expectations and consequences of job functions/responsibilities needed to be clearly understood. In order to promote fairness among employees, a district standard was determined to be necessary for all school bus operators.

© 2014, Florida Department of Education. All Rights Reserved. What Should Be Included In A Safe Driver Plan? Purpose/Goal/Mission Statement. Identify the responsible person to administer the safe driver plan. Should identify all of the operational requirements for an applicant. Should identify all of the operational requirements for an active school bus operator (Regular, ESE and Substitute). Some districts expand the Safe Driver Plan to other district personnel.

(con’t) A clearly identified method for holding school bus operators accountable for their actions while performing their job duties. A clearly identified listing of consequences for different violations A clearly identified method of tracking and documenting the violations of school bus operators A clearly identified application of the Safe Driver Plan. Should address causes for suspension and/or termination of employment. Should identify law and rules that govern the responsibilities and consequences.

(con’t) A acknowledgement sheet identifiying that the operator understands the Safe Driver Plan. The school bus operator should sign and date the acknowledgement sheet. Transportation/Personnel staff should place the acknowledgement sheet in the employees training or personnel file. The Safe Driver Plan should be reviewed and revised periodcially, presented again to employees, and a new acknowledgement sheet be signed.
