 Rogers Youth Hockey Association Mission Statement: We shall organize, direct and promote youth hockey in a manner which will positively represent our communities and create a fun, fair and safe hockey environment for all area youth.  The Team Manager’s Manual as an educational tool to help you understand your responsibilities related to increasing your teams enjoyment and success  Have fun! Team Manager can be a highly rewarding experience for you, for the kids, the parents and the coaches. TEAMWORK is as important for the Parents as it is to the Players. Remember to delegate, so you can sit back, relax and enjoy your child’s hockey season too. 3 INTRODUCTION

4 ROLE  Your primary role as Team Manager is that of team organization, communicator, and one who ensures the team is functioning effectively. An effective team is when:  Coaches are coaching…. The coaches should be able to focus on setting up the practices, working with the players, and keeping the team energized.  Managers are managing…. The managers will focus on updating the website, parent/player communications, scheduling, RYHA and D10 coordination, team paperwork, team events, etc.  Parents are participating…. The parents are responsible for getting their kids to practice/games on time, supplying the proper gear, fulfilling their registration & volunteer requirements, and overall support of the team.  You are the “Go To” person for your team. As long as you are a prepared and organized Team Manager – You And Your Team Will Have Fun!

5 RESPONSIBILITIES Set Up: Within 2 weeks of team’s announced  Register yourself as manager with MN Hockey & USA Hockey  Set up a Team Binder that includes the official “red” team roster, consent to treat forms, current schedule, parent contact list, etc.  Set up and facilitate team meeting.  Update Team Page with Roster Numbers, Team Logo, Contacts, etc.  Assign team volunteer duties (snack rotation, game clock, etc.) On-Going: Throughout the season  Ensure that the New Locker Room Policy is being followed.  Provides regular information and updates to parents, players and coaches as appropriate.  Coordinates all team schedules for the season.  Coordinates all team functions outside of the Ice Arena – including team parties and outings.  Coordinate all insurance claims and process for injuries.  Provides required information to the Age-Level District Coordinator.  Attends meetings as directed by RYHA and District 10 End: Closing down the season  Coordinate Jamboree schedule  Coordinate any team functions outside of the Ice Arena  Communicate requirements for submitting team volunteer hours  Communicate coaches survey to team

6  Attend Key Meetings (optional but recommended)  RYHA Managers Training Meeting  RYHA Board Meetings  Parent Meeting  Set an agenda with your coaches.  Topics of discussion should include, but not limited to:  Introductions (Coaches/Mgr and Parents/Players)  Coaching Philosophy  Expectations of Coaches, Players and Parents  Association & Team Rules, Code of Conduct  Parent Team Helpers  Organizing the team requires many duties. Many parents want to get involved to help make the team successful.  Opportunities for helpers may include:  home games  Make Player Cards w/ contact info.  Team Banners, posters  Organize Team Parties  Team photographer ACTIVITIES

Team Book: n/a Team Communications: – Team Web Page: You will be given access to edit and update your teams pages on the RYHA website. Content to add to your page include, but are not limited to… Practice Schedule Game Schedule Snack Rotation Goalie Rotation Team logos, pictures News & team information – Team s: You can use the messaging section of the website or set up a team list to send updates, changes and announcements to the team. – Mobil App: Parents with iPhones can download the Sport Ngin app to view schedules and news. An Android version is coming soon… Volunteer Hours (Dibs): Each family needs to fill 10 hours of volunteer time for the 1 st skater in the family and 5 hours for the second. Family max for volunteer hours is of the total hours for each family have to be tournament hours. Team helpers do not qualify for dibs (clock, music, locker room attendant etc). 7 ACTIVITIES

Jerseys – Mite teams receive their own jerseys and the players get to keep them at the end of the season. – Sponsor names are on the back to promote our local business sponsors. Misconduct: – Misconduct by a player: Coaches will address any misconduct issues directly with the player. – Misconduct by a coach: Level Director will address any coaching misconduct issues. – Misconduct by a parent: Coaches and/or Level Director will address any parent misconduct issues. – Misconduct issues that are unresolved will follow the escalation process established by the RYHA Board. All complaints should first be communicated via with appropriate meetings to follow. Tournaments – RYHA supports a D10 end of season tournament for all A, B and C level Mites. Locations and dates vary at each level and will be communicated by the Level Director. – Jamboree: A Mite Jamboree will be set up in March to celebrate the end of a great season. This is an RYHA only event. 8 ACTIVITIES

9 End of Season Evaluations: – RYHA Coaching Evaluation: The Coaching Director will send out a coach evaluation form to all team managers to share with their teams. All parents are asked to respond. The results are confidential, but valuable as the association reviews it’s coaching staff and training program. – Player Evaluations: At this time a player evaluation is not required from the coaches. However, parents are encouraged to talk to the coaches to gain feedback on their player’s abilities at the end of the season. Post-Season: – Various off-season opportunities are available to keep kids skating and progressing. Note that participation is not required and is at the discretion of the parents. – For opportunities, please refer to the following….
