September 2005 European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation ASAS Thematic Network II First ASAS TN II Workshop Malmo, Sweden

Welcome Thank you to LFV for hosting us Co-Hosting with NUP II+ Next three days Day one Setting the scene Global ATM Environment Day two ASAS Application Development and Validation NUPII (air-air & ATM) Day three Planning & Future Packages Wrap up (Monitoring progress maturity & conclusion)

ASAS TN II A 3 year European Commission RTD Thematic Network 7 Partners 5 work shops and 1 seminar Tableau de Bord – a review & monitoring activity Transfer and comparison of information and results on ASAS research in order to improve research strategy Focus Clarity & understanding Implementation Research for future applications Co-located with other ASAS events

ASAS TN II Objectives “Accelerate the implementations of ASAS applications in European Airspace, taking into account global applicability, to increase airspace capacity and safety.”

ASAS TN I Recommendations Commitment 1: ASAS and ADS-B applications shall be an integral part of the European ATM Master Plan. They have the potential to enhance the ATM system in the areas of safety, capacity, flexibility, efficiency and environment. Commitment 2: It is now necessary to conduct operational trials in Europe involving revenue flight. This will include in- situ certification and operational approval of the applications. Commitment 3: ASAS application must be studied as an integral part of the ATM system. Synergies with other new concept elements should be identified in order to maximise benefits.

ASAS-TN I Conclusions Significant progress in global harmonisation definition and validation - particularly on the applications included in ‘Package I’. Airspace users are convinced that ASAS and ADS-B will be an integral part of the future ATM system - but it is necessary to confirm benefit to achieve commitment of the airspace users. Applications fit with new concept elements such as ‘4D concepts’.’. Need an increased participation of aircraft operators and airport operators.

ASAS TN II is an opportunity Participate Discuss current issues Review progress Challenge information and results Send messages Launch initiatives Prepare implementation & design research Network with the ASAS community

Follow-Up to Workshop Report on events Comments captured Request for feedback Ideas for future workshops Look forward to Rome in 2006

Work shop expectations Understand where we are in terms of: Implementation maturity Research What main players are planning ASAS fit in the overall ATM system, and future concepts Better understanding of “application clustering” Feedback
