a lesson approach © 2011 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved. The formula in cell C10 multiplies the number of procedures by the patient fee. The formula in cell C11 adds the three costs and multiplies by the number of procedures. The formula in cell C12 subtracts total costs from total fees. Cell F4 refers to cell C10. Cell G4 refers to cell C11. Cell H4 will refer to cell C12. These are formulas for the data table.

a lesson approach © 2011 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved. The input values are in column E. The formulas start one column to the right and one row above.

a lesson approach © 2011 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved. The range for the Data Table command includes the formulas and the input values. The completed data table displays the results of each of the formulas in row 4 if the patient fee is adjusted.

a lesson approach © 2011 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved. You cannot delete or edit an individual cell in the array. You can delete the entire table or edit input values.

a lesson approach © 2011 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved. A two-variable data table has two sets of input values, one in a row and one in a column. The data table has one formula, placed above the column values and left of the row values.

A PivotTable enables you to “slice and dice” large amounts of data. You can “drill-down” into the data to review small pieces of data.

a lesson approach © 2011 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved. One occurrence of # of Riders uses SUM; the other uses AVERAGE. The Male column shows a sum but can be set to show a percentage.

a lesson approach © 2011 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved. A slice initially includes all items from the field.

a lesson approach © 2011 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved. When you select one or more items in the Slice shape, the data is “drilled-down.”

a lesson approach © 2011 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved. Although a PivotTable is associated with a list range, it does not automatically update if changes are made to the source list. The Refresh button is on the PivotTable Tools Options tab.

All rights reserved.  A data table is a range of cells that displays the results of different input values in one or more formulas.  In a one-variable data table, input values are substituted for one argument in the formula(s).  Input values can be shown in a row or a column and usually increase or decrease incrementally.  A one-variable data table can have multiple formulas that refer to the same input cell(s).

a lesson approach © 2011 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved.  A two-variable data table uses two sets of input values, one in a column and one in a row.  Data tables can be formatted with fill and borders that increase readability.  Data tables often use conditional formatting to highlight the current input value and results (a pointer).  Data tables use the TABLE command in an array formula in each result cell.

a lesson approach © 2011 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved.  A PivotTable is an interactive summary table that allows row and column headings to be rearranged to show different layouts or views of the data.  A PivotTable has a data source which is arranged as a list range or an Excel table.  Fields used in a PivotTable can be inserted, removed, or repositioned.

a lesson approach © 2011 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved.  PivotTables can perform a number of statistical calculations, such as SUM and AVERAGE.  Custom calculations can be assigned to PivotTable fields to show percentages, rankings, or differences.  You can create your own formulas in a PivotTable by inserting a calculated field.

a lesson approach © 2011 The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc. All rights reserved.  The Slicer tool opens a shape for filtering a PivotTable.  A PivotChart displays data from an associated PivotTable. It can use any of Excel’s chart types and be formatted like a regular chart.  PivotCharts are interactive and can be pivoted like a PivotTable.
