Teaser Trailers Niamh McCurry

What is a Teaser Trailer? Teaser Trailers are short film trailers that draw attention to the upcoming release of a new film They usually provide some information as to what the film will be about but just enough to leave you in suspense and to make you want to go and see the film. Teaser Trailers will often be a minute long yet they can be longer in order to leave the audience wanting more so they will go buy a ticket and see it in the cinema.

Teaser Trailers What will be seen in a Teaser Trailer? ~Main Characters ~Genre e.g. Action, Romance, Horror ~Storyline ~Different locations ~A-List actors as USP of the film ~Music to set the tone ~Certain colour-scheme (frames with writing) ~Release date suggested These are all factors I’ll have to take into consideration during the process of making my Teaser Trailer.

Batman Begins This was the first teaser trailer that I decided to analyse as the chilling atmosphere and sense of danger is suggested so brilliantly through the use of a monologue by the main character, Bruce Wayne... The Trailer includes the idea that Bruce’s parent’s were murdered and he is searching for something in the darkness An element of fear is created as the music begins to increase through metallic sounds which creates an ominous sense on the film. We also learn that “there is something out there in the darkness…that wont stop until it gets revenge…Me”- being Bruce himself, which leaves the audience to question whether he is a villain or a hero and whether we should fear him too.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Second Teaser Trailer I analysed where fantasy and action are well conveyed through the aid of visual effects and the already established version of events as the film is based on a book- draw in a larger audience. The Teaser Trailer is suggestive of the coming of the end of the story where ‘Good vs. Evil’ i.e. Harry Potter vs. Voldermort. The audience anticipate the release of the film through the extent of visual effects and the hype created throughout the teaser. Use of music- drums, metallic sounds, trumpets, symbols and an orchestral choir congregate to create a surge of sound that transpires the feeling of intensity and excitement.

James Bond- Casino Royale This is the third Teaser Trailer I analysed which establishes the new Bond well. With scenes of action, fast cars and guns this trailer portrays the Bond character well whilst presenting a modernized view that grabs audience attention. The Bond theme music is used which adds excitement and the use of trumpets creates that sense of sleek and style which we would associate with Bond but the guitar helps to suggest a more risky and intense modern take on Bond. Through different images of action the audience are left wondering who the real villain is and what situations Bond will get himself into- leaving them wanting to get to see the film.

What do Teasers have in common? From my research I have found that Teasers tend to include the following: ~ Film Distributors Logo ~Music to encourage a specific feeling e.g. Tension ~Sense of Story ~Several characters are introduced ~A-List Actors displayed ~Conclude leaving the audience questioning what will happen next.
