The following report appeared in Girgaon Times:

The project is called ‘Seeing Eyes, Helping Hands’(S.E.H.H.). It was inaugurated by Ms Vimala Naik, the well-known social worker and former Principal of the School. Dr. A. M. Chaudhary,Dean, New Life Medical College and Hospital, was the chief guest.

¸üµÖŸÖ ×¿ÖÖÖ ÃÖÓãÖÖ, ú´ÖÔ¾Ö߸ü ×¾ÖªÖ¯ÖϲÖÖê׬֭Öß, ´Ö¬µÖ ×¾Ö³Ö֐Ö, ÃÖÖŸÖÖ¸üÖ Std 8 Sub EnglishChapter 2.13 Speaking at the function, the Principal Smt. Suhasini Ambekar explained that the project aims at creating an awareness about special groups in our society which need our help. The school will send out batches of students from a different class every fortnight to Social Work Institutions in the city, to help with some of the jobs. The institutions include the School for the Blind, Home for the Aged, and an orphanage. By praticipating in the activities of these institutions, students will get an insight into the lives of people and develop sensitivity towards the needs of others. Ms. Naik will be the guide and counsellor for the programme. Dr. Chaudhary was highly appreciative of this project. He hoped many more schools would follow this example. He also promised to guide and help the students participating in the project. Parents and students attended the function in large numbers. Kudos to New Vision High School for their social spirit.

Here’s an example: “Hello, Komal, how was school today?” “Great. We didn’t have the last two classes today, because Saturday’s our S.E.H.H. day. “Oh, yes. So what did you do, Miss. Secretary?” “We had a brain-storming session. Ajinkya Sir spoke to us about what we could do to help solve some of the social problems. He said that first we must learn to identify the problems.” “He is right. What did you do then?” “We all tried to think of problems. He listed them on the board. Then we thought of different ways to solve the problems. He listed those also on the board. Then he said that we had to make a beginning somewhere, so we should ourselves decide where to begin.” “So, what have you decided?”

We decided to do something about it. We are going to write letters to shopkeepers who sell cigarettes and bidis to request them to stop selling them. We will go in groups and deliver the letters personally to those shopkeepers. Do you think it will help?” “You can always try.”
