Trinidad, Jr. – Discussed “ The state of fisheries ( Global & Local settings ) “ Workshop on how to improve the benefits of MPA RESULTS: TWG Members o Understood the state of the fisheries. ( Global and Philippine setting ) o Participants enumerated the following on how to improve the benefits of an MPA: Enactment of ordinance imposing higher penalty, Strict enforcement of the ordinance, IEC, provision of sufficient support for the operation of the MPA, barangay council and community involvement

Municipal Agriculturist – Gil Q. Escalante discussed the Seabank Conservation Fellow-Mr. Vince Duenas discussed social marketing as a tool for improving MPA Governance Results: TWG possessed knowledge of the benefits of having the MPA and the need to improve MPA governance: I – BENEFITS: Turns a portion of reef into a breeding area – the “interest” accrued from the area goes up exponentially as time increases Increases coral cover Makes more noise – young fish attracted to more noise ( AUTO RECRUITMENT) Increases fish stocks and fishers fish catch II – SOCIAL MARKETING: A tool in changing the behavior of the community to manage and protect the MPA
