How do tornados form? Thunderstorms from in warm, moist air east-moving cold fronts. When these thunderstorms from they may produce hail, strong winds, and tornados.

Step by Step 1. A change in wind direction happens before thunderstorms from. The wind speed increases and the height creates a invisible spinning effect in the lower atmosphere. 2. Rising air in the thunderstorm tilts the rotating air from horizontal to vertical. 3. And area of rotation 2-6 miles wide now forms the tornado.

When and where do tornados happen? All the time but mostly during the spring Mostly along the front range of the Rocky Mountains in “Tornado alley”. But can occur anywhere.

Rating system F-scale number Intensity Phrase Wind Speed Type of Damage Done F0 Gale tornado 40-72 mph Some damage to signs and trees F1 Moderate tornado 73-112 mph peels surface off roofs, mobile homes overturned F2 Significant tornado 113-157 mph Roofs torn off frame houses, mobile homes destroyed F3 Severe tornado 158-206 mph well constructed houses torn. Trains overturned. F4 Devastating tornado 207-260 mph Cars thrown F5 Incredible tornado 261-318 mph Hoses lifted and carried F6 Inconceivable tornado 319-379 mph All of the above and more

How can you prepare for a tornado? Stay Informed about the storm. Make sure you know where it is going. Look out for the WATCHES and the WARNINGS. Have a set place to hide if the storm is close. Make sure your not near any windows. Make sure you set place is safe and not going to be damaged by the storm. Like a basement or a bathroom. It’s a good idea to have a radio with you to hear updated about the storm.
