Sunday, November 15, 2015 Speaker: Dr. Roy Oksnevad Responding to God’s Call: The Jonah Response Jonah 1-4

Introduction Transition: How should we as Christians to respond to Muslims in light of the media attention in the Middle East? If we listen to the media we will get a myriad of opinions. God has given us the proper response to threats in the book of Jonah. If we compare Jonah’s response to God’s response as outlined in the book of Jonah, we will better know how to respond to Islam and any other perceived threat.

Run and Hide Response (Jonah 1:1-2) DO NOTHING! A. What would ever cause Jonah to respond by running? 1) Question: Do we exemplify any of these characteristics? 2) Application: God’s response

Turn or Burn Response (Jonah 3:4; 4:5) Judgmental! A. What would cause Jonah to respond with wishing judgment on the Ninevites? 1) What was the response of the Ninevites? 2) NT Theology: Can a person turn to God without God enabling them to respond to Himself? i. Diaspora: ii. Criticism: iii. Dissonance:

Redemptive Response (Jonah 4:11) A. God’s nature is Redemptive (Jonah 4:2) B. God is concerned for the messenger C. God is concerned for the lost

Conclusion: Is our natural response to run and hide? Is our natural response of turn and burn – judgmental? Is our response Redemptive?
