Q4: Who would be the audience for your media product?
Our Core Target Audience Our film will appeal a fairly large audience, aged as the film is mainly a conventional thriller film, and Thrillers attract a wide mainstream audience. Its protagonist is a young male who is good looking and shows courage within the narrative, so it might appeal to a male audience who would like the action and a female one due to the sexy main character. Our film might attract the 30+ audience as it has lots of psychological elements in it so the 30+ audience whom are usually wider and more mature might find this appealing to them as I feel our film works the brain and makes the audience ask questions to why something is happening.
Niche Audience As the film has post-apocalyptic themes is could also attract a more niche audience interested in this genre. As the OTS of the film is in a montage style this also might help appeal to a younger audience as it will hook them in with a fast pace start to the film. It might suit more of a British audience as the character are British and so is the setting so this might help a British audience feel more sympathetic towards a character and there for have a more positive experience of the movie. In terms of class there isn’t a specific class that would appeal to our film more than others this is due to the fact that the movie is in a dystopian setting so class isn’t really a key factor in a post apocalyptic world.
Typical Audience Member. Tim Glomb, He is 18 years of age, He lives in Brighton. Tim wear basic clothes doesn't care to much about his appearance, shops in places like H&M and Route One. He enjoys being with his mates. He likes to play video games, he mainly plays sports games (e.g. FIFA, NBA etc.). He also goes to the gym to keep himself fit. He watches films fairly often he favourites are – Man on Fire, Godfather and Inception. He doesn’t watch a lot of TV shows but he does enjoy, The Walking Dead and Family Guy. Tim doesn’t visit the cinema to often but does go if his mates are, He prefers to watch it at home on DVD or a Movie site (Netflix etc). He does not enjoy mainstream chart music but does enjoy the majority of music like – Rock, Rap, Drum&Bass and Reggae. I think that ‘The Enduring’ would appeal to Tim Glomb because he enjoys thriller films and if his mates were going to see this film at the cinema he would tag along and see it with them.
Rating/Certificate - I have given our movie a 15 rating as it might be hard for a younger audience to figure out what is going on in the film as it has some psychological elements in it, plus it also raises a few social issues/questions which a younger audience might not understand. It will suit an older audience because our film will contain mature language. The Enduring is also a serious and not the most upbeat of films so this might appeal to those over the age of 16. In terms of the BBFC guidelines, there will be strong language in our film this is due to it being an uphill struggle for the protagonist throughout the film where he encounters many problems so swearing is going to being used in some parts of the film. Our film will not show sexual nudity but will contain quite a lot of sex references.BBFC guidelines
