Most famous for: Faust A two-part poetic drama written over 60 years. It was only completed just before he died. The story of Doctor Faustus. (cf. Christopher Marlowe) an intelligent academic who wanted to know more than he should and sold his soul to the devil to be able to know what the devil knew. After 24 years and too late, he discovers that the devil knows nothing of any value and as he descends into hell he regrets his foolishness.
