Welcome Parents and Students

Units Required to Graduate From High School 4 English* 4 Math* 3 Science 1 U.S. History 1/2 Government 1/2 Economics 1 Additional Social Studies 1 PE or JROTC 1 Foreign Language or Vocational 1 Computer Science 7 Electives Total - 24 units * English 1 Honors and Algebra 1 Honors will each fulfill one credit towards graduation requirements

Guidance Department Each year students must qualify to be placed in Honors classes. Just because they may have been in pre-honors the year before does not mean they are automatically placed the next year. Placement was based strictly on exam scores, his or her final average, and teacher recommendation. Accepting Credit: We do not recommend your child accept credit for Algebra 1 Honors and/or English 1 Honors with an average below an 85. An average of a C or lower shows your child did not learn the skills needed to advance to the next course. In addition, accepting credit begins your child's Grade Point Average (GPA). Once credit is accepted, it cannot be removed from your child's transcript. This decision will not be made until the end of the school year. Discussion will begin at your child's Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) meeting, which will not begin until February We will talk about their current average and where your child stands at that time (if they are projected to receive credit). It is extremely important that your child makes every effort to be successful. Based on the teachers personal schedules, they are available before and after school to help your child grasp concepts and skills. Take advantage of these opportunities!!!!

Both Classes Increased Class Load Independent Expectations Attendance is vital (No more than 10 days) High School SC State Standards Parent Support Daily Homework GPA-We do not recommend taking less than a "B" in these classes to the high school because this can negate future scholarships. End of Course Test counts 20% of students' final average!! Remember that students are skipping a grade level in these classes, so the work will require more effort to achieve good grades.

English I Honors Expectations: * Significant amount of reading every night * Assess reading with quizzes * Homework is counted as individual grades * Heavy emphasis on grammar & mechanics * Study & prepare daily * Don't let things get too overwhelming before you reach out for help * Extra credit is NOT an option!

Some novels that students may be reading: Bronx Masquerade To Kill a Mockingbird Unwind Romeo & Juliet The Odyssey Great Expectations The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

Honors English & Algebra teachers are using Remind 101!

Grading Scale for English & Algebra 50% Tests 30% Quizzes 15% Classwork 5% Homework

Algebra I Study daily Daily homework Weekend homework occasionally Teachers are here for help before and after school by appointment. Students are expected to make up work immediately. Expected to bring homework & supplies to class daily! Extra credit is NOT an option!
