Youtube recycling video – Purpose – show older, non-recycling duds what they should do and why. – What’s Great: slick editing and story-telling, logos, compelling facts, matching music – What’s Needed: Specific, measurable request for action (pledge to recycle all bottles, share with 5 friends, etc.) Citations for statistics given during movie.

Honoring US casualties of war – Purpose – have celebrity fans re-examine who they honor, recognizing the sacrifices of soldiers. – What’s Great: Clear ethical message delivered simply via facebook – What’s Needed: Citations to support the claims (“famous for rehab”, “died in her bath”, “worldwide news” and also for Lt. Michael Murphy. A “for more info” page/link so that once you’ve gotten your audience’s attention, you can direct them to additional information. Specific, measurable request for action (thank a vet, leave a comment)

Go to for LOTS of good ideas! See what Campaigns they are currently promoting. Look at the Action Finder to review project ideas where you can choose time, who, what.

JM Parking Lot Garbage. Purpose – get students to not litter. Shoot video of the lot at 7am, compared to 3:30 each day. Edit into a 30 second video to be shown during advisory. Have students with garbage bags in the lot reminding students to throw their garbage away. Follow-up with additional video each week to demonstrate the progress or lack of progress. Good Works. Purpose – encourage a JM culture of kindness. Create a “good deed” ticket, giving each teacher ten blanks, along with an explanation of the project. Teachers distribute the tickets, then winners are chosen from those to get gift certificates (donated by local businesses in conjunction with the administration). Follow-up with surveys of students and staff on changes in the building. Recruitment Drive. Get more students to join a JM Club. Choose a JM club with low attendance during Advisory. Work with the advisors and club members on a recruitment drive. Gather data on increased participation/attendance.

? What questions do you have to help you accomplish today’s goal of understanding the assignment?

Working collaboratively with your group: Review the assignment, rubrics, and what needs to be accomplished for success. Determine what roles might be needed, taking advantage of the strengths of the group members. When finished, take advantage of this time to progress on your Collaborative Research and Persuasive Project.
