Presentation Title Here 30pt Arial Professionalism 39 th CEPIS COUNCIL – Nov 2007 Jolly Hotel – Brussels

24 th September th CEPIS Council - Brussels Background At Vienna Presidents’ Meeting proposed to pursue three “thematic areas” –Skills –Professionalism –Education and Research Initial workshop on Professionalism on 15/3/2007 –Report to Spring Council Workshop at Spring Council considered report of initial workshop –Decided to wait and see

24 th September th CEPIS Council - Brussels Proposals from Workshop Definition of Interest Domain CEPIS Professionalism Programme European Symposium on IT Professionalism Professionalism Workshop –To propose concrete steps Non-competition with IFIP

24 th September th CEPIS Council - Brussels Where are we? Two parallel (but connected?) strands –CEPIS’ own activity in Professionalism? Its offer to members, etc. –IFIP I3P and whether, and to what degree, CEPIS should be involved?

24 th September th CEPIS Council - Brussels IFIP I3P Task Force established by IFIP in 2006 –BCS, ACS, CIPS, (CSZA) Promoting an international IT Professional certification scheme –Largely based on BCS’ CITP programme I3P Body will certify member societies to award IITP certification IFIP GA Addis Ababa has voted €200k with matching funding from TF members TF negotiating with multinational IT organisations for “Platinum Sponsorship” Proposed programme launch in January 2009

24 th September th CEPIS Council - Brussels What is IITP? IITP is a globally-understood certification of –Professional standard and standing –Knowledge of CBOK and maintenance of competence –Adherence to codes of ethics/conduct/practice –Submission to disciplinary scheme –Membership of a professional body –International equivalence IITP is not –A measure of academic knowledge/attainment –Competitive with EuCIP IITP is implemented by member societies, accredited by I3P as meeting the required standard

24 th September th CEPIS Council - Brussels Why is IITP significant? Of itself –Global standing –IT equivalent of “CEng” In respect of CEPIS? –Overlapping membership –Interest in skills shortages etc –Mobility in Europe –Proposed “Blue Card” Visa scheme

24 th September th CEPIS Council - Brussels What has CEPIS done with I3P? With overlapping membership, IFIP and CEPIS share some concerns IFIP and CEPIS seek to cooperate in areas of mutual interest and added value CEPIS attended, by invitation, I3P Task Force meeting in Montreal –Presentations by Microsoft and AVH –Summary of programme status to date –Round-table discussion –Consideration of potential for ECDL-F to be “agent” of I3P accreditation –Seeking CEPIS participation and support (on behalf of members) European Region EU influence Concerns of smaller societies

24 th September th CEPIS Council - Brussels What CEPIS should do regarding I3P There is a lot of momentum behind I3P –It will happen, whether or not CEPIS is involved –It is supported (though IFIP) by the majority of Societies in CEPIS Therefore CEPIS should (in parallel to other Professionalism activity): –Participate on behalf of members to voice European regional view Formally join I3P –Influence I3P to form IITP taking account of CEPIS’ members’ needs –Facilitate engagement between I3P and EU Commission –Pilot “workability” in non “anglo-saxon” countries

24 th September th CEPIS Council - Brussels What should CEPIS do? Professionalism Task Force? –Supportive of / complementary to / independent from IFIP I3P? But nonetheless review CEPIS position with I3P and agree way forward (if any) –Pursue initial workshop proposals? I3P notwithstanding, Professionalism concept is important for Member Societies and for Europe (why else are we here?) Other?
