Who we are Energy Solutions, a part of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at North Carolina State University identifies energy efficiency, co-generation and green initiatives that reduce energy, save money and increase profits, resulting in a more competitive and sustainable base of industry. About one third of the team's recommendations are implemented, resulting in an average of $7 million in annual energy savings. Energy Solutions also serves as one of 24 Industrial Assessment Centers in the country, for manufacturers that meet eligibility requirements.

Clients/Systems Industrial/Commercial/Government Major energy-consuming systems: Boilers Lighting Refrigeration HVAC & Controls Compressed Air Motor & Pumps Water Heating Other Facility Specific Process Systems

Serving Utilities Fayetteville Public Works Commission is using energy services provided by Energy Solutions, NC State University to reach out to its Industrial and Commercial Sector. FPWC is helping its customers, reduce utility bills and increase profits. This public service contributes to a stronger local economy. Energy services help utilities add load in a controlled manner, reduce energy waste, shift loads from peak to off-peak times, and reduce peak loads – all of which help the utility to manage its costs, while helping customers to grow.

Audits Energy audits are comprehensive evaluations of the actual performance of a building’s energy using systems. Audits are a launching point for many other energy services. After an audit is completed, the utility can match the customer’s needs with available utility programs.

To Reduce Watt and/or Watt-hour First and foremost, we need to understand it! Audit services may provide any or all of the following: A comprehensive analysis of energy costs Breakdown of energy use by applications/pieces of equipment and processes Recommendations for energy efficiency measures Load management suggestions Estimated implementation costs and cost-to-benefit analysis Available rates, rebates and financing options Information on available technical assistance An educational opportunity to the customer

Recommended Savings – 2 Facilities 1,792 MWh/yr. Reduction – 9% 0.25 MW Reduction – 8% Simple Payback ~ 2 years

To Date (3 Targeted Audits and 2 Complete Facility Audits) Recommended measures add up to: 6,432 MWh 1.2 MW 19,858 MMBtu/yr. – Natural Gas

Benefits Achieve required load shape Provide the possibility of implementing low or no-cost measures during the audit itself Improve customer utility relationship Enhance customer profitability Ensure long-term revenue stream for the utility Support local economy Establishing utility as the local energy expert

Follow-up F-PWC and Energy Solutions continues to work with the customer after the audit to help institute demand and energy savings changes. Project/Bid Review Grant Writing Research Rebates, Financial incentives/loans Measurement & Verification Technical Assistance A report on the shelf helps no one!
