3 9 CFR 430.4(a) Either control via HACCP – Identify Listeria monocytogenes as a hazard reasonably likely to occur after lethality treatment but before final packaging Or test food contact surfaces via Sanitation SOP’s for Listeria spp. – Mandatory frequency Large-- 4 tests/line/month Small -- 2 tests/line/month Very Small-- 1 test/line/month Proposed Testing for Listeria spp.

4 9 CFR 430.4(b) Results of Listeria spp., testing used to verify Sanitation SOP’s – Preventing direct contamination or adulteration of product – Results must be made available to FSIS for review Proposed Testing for Listeria spp.

5 9 CFR 430.4(b) continued Positive test result – Establishments must take corrective actions under 9 CFR (a) and (b) to determine and demonstrate that the affected lot or lots are not adulterated with Listeria monocytogenes: » Determine which lot or lots affected » Hold, sample, and test for Listeria monocytogenes » Dispose of affected product Proposed Testing for Listeria monocytogenes
