Research Companies

Linkedin Analytics In 2011, LinkedIn was one of the least effective methods to use conducting a job search. In 2015, it is the most effective! Smaller employers, those who employ 500 or fewer, focus more on recruiting passive candidates and those from internet job boards. (72% of employers actively recruit passive candidates.) Larger employers focus on internal hires and diversity hires than smaller employers.

Advice for Young Professionals From Hank Boyer, author of Using New LinkedIn Analytics to Drive a More Effective Job Search Be prepared to distinguish yourself from other young professionals with the same skills. How is that done? Research the employer’s website, i.e., management structure, products and services, mission and vision, press releases. Research the employers market, how they promote their brand and perhaps complete an informational interview with someone who has worked for the company. Identify the value you bring based upon this research and articulate that value in ways that meets the employer’s needs.

Using LinkedIn Professionally Make sure your profile is complete. Build your network, starting with family, friends, former employers, professors, etc. Prepare for interviews using LinkedIn to accomplish your research (both company and individuals). What common ground did you find? Join LinkedIn groups, i.e., Judson Alumni LinkedIn Group, professional organizations and Indeed.com, official job search group (LinkedIn for Indeed.com). Participate in professional discussions, ask and answer questions. Search for jobs daily. A good profile will passively attract job openings to your account!
