Introduction to the Engineering Sessions One “Dog-Year” Later Jim Kutzner PBS

ATSC Top-Down Meetings > In 1998, the ATSC formed a very large ad-hoc group of industry experts including vendors, users, consultants > They were brought together to figure out how to build DTV plants, both stations and networks > The results pointed to the need for new equipment, new interfaces, and new standards

Engineering Sessions > We borrowed the Top-Down idea to frame this year’s conference > We generated a simple block diagram and then sought to address all the elements > Every paper had to fit the block and address one of three issues

How we developed this year’s agenda > We took your feedback from last year > We worked with the Technology Committee to address today’s leading issues > We reviewed the many submissions and picked those that fit the criteria

Major Themes this year > Infrastructure > What do you need to know now as you plan your station’s development? > Approaches to Master Control > Ennes Conference on Saturday > Nagging and “Other” Issues > Audio in DTV, DTV Transmission & Reception

Technology Presentations & Case Studies > The presentations include technology discussions such as IP infrastructure and tapeless operation > The case studies dig deeper into: > DTV Transmission > Archive management > Broadcast File Delivery: PBS’ MOC > ACE Implementation
